Gadaffi's son back as football chief

The Libyan leader, Muammar Gadaffi, has reinstated his second son, Saidi, as president of the country's football federation.

Saidi had earlier resigned -- apparently after complaints of bias in his role as Libya's leading referee and player.

A senior official said that without Saidi, the football league had been forced to freeze its activities for the summer break.

Celebrations have been taking place in Tripoli to mark Saidi's return to the football federation and thousands of fans are being flown in for a party in the main stadium. Observers say the reappointment bolsters Saidi's position as the most prominent of Colonel Gadaffi's five sons.
