Ten Russia army generals fired

Reports from Moscow say President Putin has retired ten senior army generals.

There's no official announcement, but the Interfax news agency quoted Kremlin sources as saying they'd been stood down either at their own request or on the grounds of age or job-rotation.

The move comes against a background of continuing debate at the top of the Russian military hierarchy, between supporters of the Defence Minister, Marshal Sergeyev, and his top generals, over how the Russian army should be remodelled and equipped.
