Mexico police arrest alleged 'King of Heroin'

Mexican police have announced the arrest of one of the most significant heroin traffickers in the country.

Jose Antonio Medina, 39, was arrested in the western state of Michoacan on Wednesday.

Police believe he is responsible for running hundreds of pounds (kgs) of heroin into Southern California each year.

Meanwhile, the US drug authorities say Mexican criminal groups have strengthened their position as the greatest drug trafficking threat to the United States.

Alix Kroeger reports.
