Forty years of The World Tonight

Thirty one years ago, in April 1979, the country was in the midst of the election campaign that brought Margaret Thatcher to power.

At the end of the first week of campaigning, the programme assessed how it was going. John Sergeant had been following Mrs Thatcher and this report shows vividly how politicians' desire to use the media is not such a recent phenomenon.
