Skydiver attempts to break sound barrier in record jump

Skydiver Felix Baumgartner is attempting to break the record for the highest jump at 120,000 feet, and may be the first person to break the sound barrier unaided.

The feat is extremely dangerous and many people have died trying to beat the record in the past but the team hope to gather significant scientific data.

The jump would surpass the previous record set half a century ago by US Air Force Captain Joe Kittinger by 20,000 feet.

The now retired Colonel Joe Kittinger is supporting Mr Baumgartner in the attempt . Both men spoke to the BBC from New York.
