UN torture investigator Manfred Nowak said he was denied entry to Zimbabwe, despite being invited by the country's Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

Mr Nowak told the BBC it was "totally unacceptable treatment".

He said officials at the airport refused his entry despite a written invitation and a plea from the prime minister.

Mr Nowak added that it shed light on the state of the country's unity government.
