The driving lesson ends badly for the learner driver

A driving lesson in Lanham in Maryland ended with a bang after the unlicensed driver crashed a minivan through the wall of an apartment.

Robert Scriber, who was in the ground floor apartment in Good Luck Road at the time, was injured by flying debris.

He said the minivan flipped over onto his bed - where he had been lying just minutes before.

Police say neither the unnamed learner nor the friend who was instructing him had a licence.

Both men have been charged with reckless endangerment, while the driver has also been charged with driving without a licence.

The driver was in the country illegally, the Associated Press news agency reported.

A statement made by the Prince George's County fire department said: "The minivan was parked and the occupants were involved with discussing driving procedures.

"As soon as the vehicle was placed into drive, it accelerated at a high rate of speed and travelled about 25 yards before crashing into the building."
