Holocaust survivor Benjamin Piskorz talks about his capture by Ukrainian militia working for the Germans in Poland and how he watched his mother sacrifice herself in an effort to save his life.
The interview was conducted by psychologist Dr David Boder in 1946 - the first person to gather these testimonies from those still trying to make sense of their immediate and terrible experiences.
Over the last decade, with the rediscovery of the original recordings, Boder's achievements are now being reassessed and made available to the public and to historians.
Archive Hour - I Did Not Interview The Dead is broadcast on Radio 4 at 8pm on Saturday, 4 July and repeated at 3pm on Monday, 6 July.
