Million-year-old mammoth unearthed

The remains of a mammoth, believed to be up to one million years old, have been unearthed at a coal mine in eastern Serbia.

The bones were found 27 metres deep, in a layer of yellow sand.

Scientists who carried out the excavation say the rare discovery of a full skeleton is "very important" for research.

It is believed that the skeleton belongs to one of the oldest mammoth species found in Europe.
