France goes on national strike

Hundreds of thousands have marched in France, in protest at the president's handling of the economy. There were large rallies in Paris, Lyon and Marseille.

Nationwide, the one day strike closed many schools and disrupted public transport.

As unemployment rises, President Sarkozy's opponents say the government should do more to protect jobs and incomes.

Emma-Jane Kirby reports from Paris.
