Man blinded by fake whisky
![]() People are being advised to buy whisky in shops, not on the street
Police in north Wales have warned people not to buy cheap whisky after a man went blind after drinking it.
The man, from the Rhuddlan area, is believed to have bought the whisky locally. It contained methanol, which can cause blindness if drunk. The man was taken to Glan Clwyd hospital in Bodelwyddan after drinking the whisky at the weekend. So far, doctors have been unable to say if the man will be blinded permanently or just temporarily. There has only been one reported case so far, however, Gary Sumner of the trading standards department of Denbighshire council has warned people to steer clear of any cheap whisky they may be offered. The police are appealing for anyone who may have been offered suspect whisky to contact them.
