Coach counts the cost
![]() Romanian coach Emerich Jenei knows his side must take their chances
Romanian coach Emerich Jenei is hoping that the poor finishing of his side against Germany will not prove costly to their hopes of progressing in the tournament.
The Romanians wasted a number of chances to beat Germany in the opening Group A fixture on Monday and Jenei knows they will need to be more clinical against England's conquerors Portugal. "We have a chance in this competition but we have to make the most of our opportunities, we can't afford to waste them," said Jenei. "I suppose you could say that we lost two points but we also gained a point which could be very important at the end," he said. "We knew that Germany entered the game as European champions but if we had been more insistent in midfield and attack we could have won the game." Full of respect Romania meet Portugal in Arnhem on Saturday and having met the Portuguese twice in qualification Jenei knows what a tough encounter they can expect.
That respect grew even greater following Portugal's recovery from a two-goal deficit against England. Jenei said: "From what I saw on television, Portugal had great spirit and a real mental strength which is something that perhaps we haven't really seen before." When the two nations met in qualification Romania won 1-0 in Porto before drawing 1-1 in Bucharest.
