Rapist given 12 years for 'nightmare' attack
Grewal arriving at court
Jaswinder Grewal was ordered to register as a sex offender for life
A rapist who kidnapped a female executive and subjected her to a 15-hour sex ordeal has been jailed for 12 years.

Jaswinder Grewal, 30, snatched the 23-year-old as she walked to her office.

Married company manager Grewal bundled her into the back of his white van, tied her up and raped her.

A jury at Newport Crown Court had earlier found Grewal guilty of all six charges including kidnap and rape - in a case described as "every woman's nightmare".

Sentencing him to 12 years in jail judge Tom Crowther QC: "The rapes were aggravated by the psychological intimidation.

"The prolonged episode, the terrifying humilations of the victim and the terror of being plucked off the street has led to her being a prisoner in her own house and being unable to work.

"She is an eminently sensible young woman who may be expected to recover better than many. But it will be an emotional scar for the rest of her life."

The woman told the jury how she feared Grewal would murder her after the 15-hour kidnapping when she was raped three times.

She said: "I didn't think I would ever go home again.

"I just thought that he was going to kill me."

Prosecutor Peter Murphy said Grewal told his employer and his wife that his sister had been in a road accident in Wolverhampton to cover his absence.

He denied kidnap, false imprisonment, indecent assault and rape claiming his victim had consented.

But Mr Murphy described his story as "beyond belief".

Grewal, of Pontywaun, south east Wales was ordered to register as sex offender for the rest of his life.

The Chief Crown Prosecutor for Gwent has already apologised to the victim for allowing Grewal to be freed on bail before his trial.

CPS chief Chris Woolley admitted Grewal should have been remanded in custody after discovering his victim was too scared to leave her home.

After the case the woman said: "I am relieved it is over and that justice has been done."
