Yemen and Saudi Arabia end dispute

Yemen and Saudi Arabia have signed an agreement to end their long-running border dispute.

The agreement, reached during a visit to Jeddah by the President of Yemen, Ali Abdullah Saleh, spells out arrangements for the demarcation of the land and sea border, which stretches nearly two-thousand kilometres.

Details of the deal have not been made public, but Mr Saleh said the agreement drew up new borders along the desert region in Saudi Arabia known as the Empty Quarter Al-Ruba Al-Khali.

He said a demilitarised zone of twenty-kilometres on both sides of the border was be set up to avoid future incidents.
