Uefa fine Turkish FA
![]() Turkish fans were in high spirits - before that penalty
The Turkish Football Association have been fined $6,000 by UEFA following the reaction of their supporters after the award of a penalty to Italy on Sunday.
The 70th minute spot-kick awarded to the Italians by referee Hugh Dallas sparked an angry reaction from Turkish fans behind the goal. Supporters threw a number of plastic bottles and other objects on to the pitch, some of which landed close to the Scottish official. The controversial penalty was awarded by Mr Dallas after Italian striker Filippo Inzaghi went down in the penalty area following an apparently harmless challenge by Turkish skipper Ogun. Considerable delay Inzaghi himself stepped up to score the resultant penalty and settle the game 2-1 in Italy's favour but not before the objects thrown on to the pitch had caused a considerable delay. The Turkish support were out in vast numbers in Arnhem and the backing that Mustafa Denizli's side received far outnumbered the Italian's in a 25,000 crowd.
