Greece intitiative on terrorism
A spokesman for the Greek foreign ministry says Athens will be proposing that Britain and Greece launch a joint initiative within the European Union to combat terrorism. The spokesman Panos Begllitis said the proposal would be put to Britain during an EU foreign ministers meeting in Luxembourg over the next two days. Correspondents say there has been growing pressure on Greece to improve its anti-terrorism measures after the British defence attache in Athens, Stephen Saunders, was shot dead on Thursday by the November 17 group. It first emerged in 1975 and is reported to have killed more than twenty Greeks and foreigners, but none of its members have ever been arrested. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
