New revelations in cricket corruption inquiry
The commission of inquiry into allegations of corruption and match-fixing in South African cricket has heard more damning testimony. South Africa's leading cricket official, Dr Ali Bacher, repeated his allegations that the 1999 World Cup matches between India and Pakistan, and between Pakistan and Bangladesh had been fixed. And he revealed that his source was the former chief executive of the Pakistan cricket board, Majid Khan. Dr Bacher said he had also been told that one of the most powerful bookmakers in Karachi flew to England before the fifth test between England and South Africa at Leeds in 1998. He said there had been questions about some controversial umpiring decisions against South Africa which resulted in England winning the match, and the series two-one.
