Polish PM appoints new ministers

The Polish President, Aleksander Kwasniewski, has confirmed the appointment of three new cabinet ministers -- following the collapse of the coalition government last week. Jaroslaw Bauc will be the new finance minister, while Lech Kaczynski and Jerzy Widzyk will take over at Justice and Transport. The reshuffle follows the departure last Tuesday of the Freedom Party from the coalition, leaving the Solidarity party to run a minority government.

Two other Freedom Party ministers are still in post the Defence Minister, Janusz Onyszkiewicz, and the Foreign Affairs Minister, Bronislaw Geremek, but correspondents say they are expected to resign soon.
