Paraguay's General Oviedo faces extradition
The former Paraguayan army chief, General Lino Cesar Oviedo, is in detention in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia, awaiting extradition proceedings. He was transferred to Brasilia under tight security following his arrest on Sunday in the city of Foz do Iguazu on the Paraguayan border. The general was reportedly wearing a false moustache and wig, and carrying ten mobile telephones, false documents and a gun. He's wanted in Paraguay in connection with the assassination last March of the vice president, Luis Maria Argana, as well as a number of other charges including electoral fraud. General Oviedo was sentenced to ten years in prison in Paraguay for an attempted coup in 1996 and has been in hiding since leaving Argentina last year when the authorities there revoked his asylum status.
