Two Albanians killed in Kosovo

Two ethnic Albanian men have been killed and a third injured in separate attacks in north-western Kosovo.

Reports say the attackers shot dead the first two victims in the village of Cubrelj, and then fled northwards.

They attacked a third Albanian in the nearby town of Kotore.

The attackers were reported to have spoken Serbian, but local police say they can't confirm this.

The attacks happened as Albanians were celebrating the first anniversary of the take-over of the province by United Nations peacekeeping troops from Yugoslav forces. Despite the presence of some forty-seven thousand UN peacekeepers in Kosovo, ethnic violence has continued, with nine Serbs being killed in the past three weeks.
