Wigan machine rolls on
Andy Farrell
Farrell: the first player to kick 500 Super League goals
Wigan 52-20 Salford

Wigan's Australian winger Brett Dallas scored a hat-trick and skipper Andy Farrell created a new Super League record in their defeat of Salford at the JJB Stadium.

Farrell became the first player to kick 500 goals and equalled Bobby Goulding's record in landing the fastest 100 goals in a season, taking 17 games to achieve the feat.

The match as a contest was all over at half-time with the Warriors having crossed for six tries as the Salford defence crumbled.

Dallas, scored his first hat-trick for the club with an awesome display of wing play.

Four

It was Dallas who opened the scoring after just four minutes and this signalled the start of the Wigan onslaught.

The Warriors landed five more tries during the next 20-minute spell, which saw Jason Robinson claiming a brace and Chris Chester scoring his first of the season.

Salford did manage to score when the hard-working Darren Brown crossed for the visitors, but there was no way back from a 34-6 deficit at the break.

Determined

A more determined Salford side took the field after the interval and were rewarded with tries by James Smith, Nick Pinkney and Steve Blakeley to make the scoreline a little more respectable.

But Wigan again pressed the gas pedal when Dallas completed his hat-trick following a timely Willie Peters interception.

Brady Malam also registered his first try in a Wigan jersey before scrum-half Peters chalked up the half-century mark with Wigan's final try.

Teams:

Wigan: Davis, Dallas, Renouf, Connolly, Robinson, Farrell, Peters, O'Connor, Newton, Cowie, Cassidy, Haughton, Betts. Replacements: Mestrov, Malam, Gilmour, Chester.
Salford: Broadbent, Pinkney, Nicol, Webber, Tassell, Blakeley, Holroyd, Southern, Alker, Faimalo, Brown, Smith, Wainwright. Replacements: Duffy, Makin, Highton, Littler.
