Bangladesh court says cuffs off
A court in Bangladesh has ordered police to unchain a twelve-year-old boy who has been handcuffed to a hospital bed because he was suspected of pickpocketing. Human rights lawyers who brought the case say they want to challenge what they regard as the often unjustified use of handcuffs. They say they also hope the case will encourage courts to challenge the principle of detaining children in policy custody. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
