Four road deaths in 24 hours

The scene of the first road fatalities
Four men have been killed in separate road accidents in Northern Ireland, bringing the total number of road deaths this year to 75.

The tragedies happened within the space of 24 hours in counties Down and Fermanagh.

The latest accident happened at 0200 BST on Monday on the Castlewellan Road near Clough, County Down.

Three people were injured in the collision between a Toyota Carina and a Ford Fiesta. The name of the man who died has not yet been released.

One person is critically ill in hospital and other two are said to be ill but stable following the accident.

Police at Newcastle in County Down have appealed for witnesses.

Three others were killed in two separate accidents on Sunday.

Motorcyclist injured

George Entwhistle, 63, from Enniskillen, County Fermanagh died when his Renault Clio car was involved in a collision with a Honda motorcycle on the Enniskillen to Ballinamallard Road.

The accident happened about 1800 BST. The motorcyclist was seriously injured.

Earlier, two men died and another person was injured after a road accident on the Ballynahinch to Belfast Road in County Down.

The dead men were 21-year-old Dominic Rice from Loughinisland and James Thompson, 53, from Clough.

Appeal for information

The crash, involving a Renault Laguna and a Renault 19, happened shortly before 1100 BST at Derrylough, a few miles from Ballynahinch.

The woman driving the Laguna was injured.

The police at Downpatrick have appealed for information about the accident.

In a separate accident on Saturday, four people were injured when two cars collided on the same road near the crossroads at Temple.
