Chinese leader in Yugoslavia

The chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress, Li Peng -- who's visiting Yugoslavia -- is due to speak to parliament in Belgrade later today.

Mr Li began a three-day visit yesterday during which he's expected to meet the Yugoslav president, Slobodan Milosevic.

The BBC Beijing correspondent says relations between China and Yugoslavia have become even warmer since the NATO bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade last year. In a speech last night, Mr Li praised the Yugoslav people for resisting what it called the barbaric aggression of NATO forces last year during the Kosovo conflict.
