Lebanon in UN protest
The Lebanese President, Emile Lahoud, has protested to the United Nations that the new border line being traced between Lebanon and Israel is misplaced. Mr Lahoud, in a memorandum to the UN secretary general, Kofi Annan, blamed the errors on the haste in which the border verification is being carried out by UN experts. Israel is also said to be unhappy with some of the decisions. Last week, Mr Annan urged the experts to speed up the work so UN peacekeepers could be sent to the border region. As the experts continued their work today, minor stone-throwing incidents were reported from the Lebanese side. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
