New Iranian pro-reform paper out
A new pro-reform newspaper has appeared in Iran, run by the brother of the supreme spiritual leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. The Hayat-e-No, or New Life, came out in the capital Teheran, more than a month after most reformist publications were shut down by the government. In its first issue, the paper said it wanted to advance the reform movement led by President Mohammed Khatami. It said it supported a democratic society of numerous voices. The editor, Hadi Khameini -- a member of the new parliament -- is a reformist cleric and a supporter of President Khatami. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
