Disaster exercise at railway station
![]() Emergency services took part in the exercise
Members of the emergency services have taken part in a simulated disaster exercise at Botanic Railway Station in Belfast.
The exercise involved the simulation of a train crash in which several dozen passengers had been injured. Translink's Health and Safety Manager Granville Lavin said it was important to examine the response to an emergency on this piece of track, which is the longest tunnel in the rail network in Northern Ireland. Mr Lavin said: "The whole purpose of running these exercises is to learn and we have a fairly extensive debrief planned over the next couple of weeks. He said communication was an important factor and "getting clarity of information between the different organisations and how we can co-operate further together". " I think we can certainly make some improvements in that area," he said.
