Paterson reverts to fly-half
Paterson
Paterson will find himself in a new position
Scotland coach Ian McGeechan has decided to play Chris Paterson in the fly-half position for Tuesday's tour match against East Coast/Poverty Bay in New Zealand.

Paterson usually plays at full-back for his country and has been a favourite with his coach ever since debuting in the World Cup last October.

"We had talked about giving him the opportunity at fly-half. A tour is the time to do this," said McGeechan.

"I feel it is important to look at him at fly-half. It's part of his education. In the long term he's got a lot to offer in both positions."

Wing

Edinburgh Reivers star Derrick Lee will now revert to the full-back position, after playing the majority of the season on the wing.

"Nowadays wings and full-backs have to be completely interchangable. Wings can no longer stay on the wing. They have a much different role from even three years ago," added the coach.

McGeechan will welcome back Scott Murray, Martin Leslie and Cammie Murray from injury for the game.

"We'll leave the length of time they play on Tuesday up to them. We just have to see how they get on."

Scotland team:

15-Derrick Lee; 14-Cammie Murray, 13-David Officer, 12-Graham Shiel (captain), 11-Craig Moir; 10-Chris Paterson, 9-Graeme Beveridge; 8-Jon Petrie, 7-Martin Leslie, 6-Don Mackinnon, 5-Stewart Campbell, 4-Scott Murray, 3-Barry Stewart, 2-Steve Scott, 1-Allan Jacobsen.
Replacements: 16-Steve Brotherstone, 17-Mattie Stewart, 18-Iain Fullarton, 19-Roland Reid, 20-Graeme Burns, 21-Alan Bulloch, 22-Shaun Longstaff.
