Iran reformers win key parliamentary posts

Two liberal supporters of the Iranian reformist President, Mohammad Khatami, have won key posts in the new parliament's leadership.

The parliament elected Behzad Nabavi and Mohammad-Reza Khatami -- the younger brother of President Khatami -- as first and second deputy speakers.

Both Mr Nabavi and the younger Mr Khatami are leading figures within the parliament's reformist coalition, which holds about eighty-percent of the seats. The vote also confirmed the election of a reformist cleric, Mehdi Karroubi, to the powerful post of parliamentary speaker.
