Tanzania president selected
Tanzania's governing party has nominated President Benjamin Mkapa as its candidate for the general election scheduled at the end of October. The conference of the Chama cha Mapinduzi party in the city of Dodoma almost unanimously voted for Mr Mpaka to serve a second five-year term.
