Polio vaccination campaign starts in Angola

A campaign to vaccinate nearly three million children against polio has begun in Angola.

Thousands of volunteers will participate in the operation in a bid to vaccinate eighty percent of children aged five years and under.

To ensure maximum coverage, the volunteers will make house-to-house visits with stamps being stuck on the doors of every home where the vaccinations have taken place.

Last year, a similar campaign was carried out after a polio epidemic left hundreds of Angolan children paralysed.

A BBC correspondent in Angola says although the polio virus is now under control, this year's task to vaccinate the entire country remains huge.
