UN resumes Lebanon border work

United Nations experts have resumed verification of last month's Israeli military withdrawal from southern Lebanon, under pressure from the secretary-general, Kofi Annan, to speed up the work.

It was postponed yesterday after Lebanese objections to part of the border drawn up by the UN, and the day was marked by a series of violent incidents.

UN peacekeepers can move into the area only when it's confirmed that Israel has fully withdrawn its forces.

Both sides are said to be unhappy with the border designated by the UN, and correspondents say any delay in deploying the peacekeepers could increase the possibility of clashes.
