Cronje offered immunity deal
Hansie Cronje is understood to be considering the offer

Disgraced South Africa captain Hansie Cronje has been offered immunity from prosecution, if he makes a full disclosure of his role in match-fixing.

The South African government suggested the deal after further damning allegations were made against Cronje during three days of evidence to the King Commission.

"Shamila Batohi, the King Commission's advocate, has informed me that Hansie Cronje has been offered indemnity from prosecution if he comes clean to the commission," said John Bacon, secretary to the investigation.

Should the former captain accept the deal, he still faces disciplinary action from the United Cricket Board of South Africa and the International Cricket Council.

Cronje is understood to be considering the offer, but his lawyer, John Dickerson, has refused to comment.

However, immunity hinges upon the commission, headed by Judge Edwin King, ruling that full disclosure has been made by all the players.

It is not known when Cronje will give evidence to the investigation.

Batsman Herschelle Gibbs and seam bowler Henry Williams told the corruption probe in Cape Town that they had both agreed with Cronje to accept money in exchange for playing badly in an one-day international against India last March.

All-rounder Pieter Strydom said that money had been suggested, but that he had rejected the idea as a joke.

Nicky Boje - the last of the five South African players charged by Delhi police with match-fixing in April - denied any involvement.

Gibbs has already been dropped from South Africa's planned tour to Sri Lanka in July.
