Who's on the spot?
![]() England do not want a repeat of 1990's penalty misery
England appear to be ready for penalty shoot-outs as Kevin Keegan has already chosen the players with the honour of taking the spot-kicks.
The chosen few are: Alan Shearer, Michael Owen, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Dennis Wise, according to The Sun. Unlike his predecessor, the England coach has been practising penalties with his players, but the famous five are ready to put themselves on the spot risking humiliation and future pizza adverts. With England's history of penalty misery in their last three major tournaments - the semi-finals of Italia 90 and Euro 96, plus the second round of France 98, they will be keen to get it right from twelve yards.

Kevin Phillips, Nick Barmby and Robbie Fowler are possible candidates for penalty back-up. Keegan has also attempted to re-create the tense and pressured atmosphere of the tournament by getting his players to walk from the half-way line before the kick. It appears Keegan is leaving nothing to chance.
