Taylor-made for Foxes
![]() Leicester City welcome their new manager Peter Taylor at a press conference
Peter Taylor has been named Leicester's new manager.
Leicester called a press conference for 1230 BST on Monday at Filbert Street where they officially announced Taylor as successor to Martin O'Neill. Taylor has just led Gillingham to the First Division, after they beat Wigan Athletic in a promotion play-off at Wembley. And he has also had a successful spell as the England under-21 manager before he was removed to allow Howard Wilkinson to take over.
Taylor will be aware he has a hard act to follow, with O'Neill having steered Leicester to four successive top-10 finishes in the Premiership and two League Cup triumphs before accepting the managerial post at Celtic.
But Taylor has carved out a formidable reputation in the past four years after an unsuccessful start to his managerial career at Southend. Gillingham chairman Paul Scally was sad to see Taylor go but wished him all the best. He said: "I've enjoyed his company immensely, he's been a great friend and he's brought quality to the club that it didn't previously have. "I'm disappointed he's leaving, but having said that I'm grateful for what he's done this year and I wish him well in his new job."
