Pierce/Hingis in doubles final

Mary Pierce won a hard-fought semi-final
Mary Pierce warmed up for her French Open singles final on Saturday by reaching the women's doubles finals.

Pierce and partner Martina Hingis, who she beat in Thursday's singles semi-final, were 2-6 6-2 6-1 victors over Alexandra Fusai and Nathalie Tauziat.

Pierce, who suffered severe leg cramps after her semi-final, stretched her legs several times early on in the doubles duel.

She then went to another court to practice for the singles final on Saturday against Spain's Conchita Martinez.

Pierce seized up so badly with cramps following her three-set victory Thursday over Hingis that she had to receive an intravenous re-hydration treatment following the match.

She said: "I've never had cramps before. It's the first time in my life."

Whether she will be fully fit against Martinez is still to be seen.

But mentally she will have the edge because of a 10-6 win record over the Spaniard.
