Drugs testing in every Euro 2000 game
![]() Tested at random: German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn
Two players from each team will be tested for drugs after every Euro 2000 game, Uefa have confirmed.
For the first time, Uefa have also been testing players before a major tournament - the German football federation have confirmed that four of their players were tested recently. During Euro 2000, Uefa will draw players' numbers at random at halftime but will not pass on the names to the respective teams until 15 minutes before the final whistle. The players selected will have to report to the doping control area some 30 minutes after the end of the match. That gives them time to shower, change and to talk to the media before going to provide a sample. Procedure Eight Uefa officers will supervise the test procedure, assisted by a representative of the government authorities in either Belgium or the Netherlands, the tournament's co-hosts. Samples will be analysed at International Olympic Committee accredited laboratories in Belgium or the German city of Cologne. The Belgian lab will not examine samples from their country's team and none of the samples from the German team will be sent to Cologne.
There have been no high profile doping cases during the finals of European championships, but Diego Maradona was thrown out of the 1994 World Cup finals in the United States after he tested positive for banned substances.
