Azeris agree on electoral commission

Parliament in Azerbaijan has finally passed a controversial new law on the Central Electoral Commission -- the body which will supervise parliamentary elections in November.

It comes after months of wrangling between the government and opposition about how many representatives of each side will sit on the 18-member commission.

The final deal, which was reached after the intervention yesterday by a senior OSCE official Gerard Stoudman, allows for seven seats to go to the opposition and the rest to pro-government parties and independent members of parliament.
