Franco-German alliance considers EU reform
President Chirac and Chancellor Schroeder are holding a summit in the German city of Mainz at which they are expected to discuss how to speed up reform in the EU. The meeting is being seen as a re-emergence of the Franco-German alliance as the driving force of European integration. Among the reforms the two leaders are expected to discuss is a proposal to reduce member states' veto rights which is opposed by Britain.
