Slovenian boss backs Spain

Back Spain says Slovenian coach Katanec
Slovenia coach Srecko Katanec says Group C rivals Spain are his tip to win Euro 2000.

"Spain are the big favourites, they are top of the pile," he said after a training session at the headquarters of Dutch outfit FC De Bilt.

Slovenia are the tournament's rank outsiders - but they shocked star-studded Ukraine in a two-legged play-off to book a place in the finals.

Katanec insists there may be more upsets to come, saying: "My team is capable of causing a lot of surprises."

Slovenia meet neighbours and fierce rivals Yugoslavia in their first match in Charleroi on 12 June.

Katanec said: "It's a special match for us Slovenes - it's our first match in the final phase of a major tournament, and we must not screw it up."

Meanwhile Slovenia's star striker Zlatko Zahovic is expecting to beat Yugoslavia on 12 June.

"Yugoslavia have more experience, more big clubs. But we think that as a team we're a little bit better."
