Andean nations speed up economic integration
The five countries of the the Andean Community Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela have said they intend to speed up moves towards economic integration. The announcement came at the end of a summit meeting of the countries' leaders in the Peruvian capital, Lima. It was the first international meeting hosted by President Fujimori since his controversial re-election last month amid allegations of fraud. The United States has said will consider imposing sanctions against Peru if the allegations prove to be true. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
