Amnesty condemns climate of intimidation

The human rights group, Amnesty International, says the political opposition in Zimbabwe is being subjected to what it describes as state-sponsored terrorism.

Amnesty said there was a deliberate plan at work to intimidate voters in the run up to the general election later this month.

It said the climate of violence had reached the point where it threatened the holding of a free and fair vote. In a strongly-worded report, it listed a series of killings and other attacks on members of the opposition over the past three months. So far, there's been no response from the government.
