Keegan shrugs off Shearer scan
![]() Shearer is greeted by fans as England arrive in Belgium
Kevin Keegan expects Alan Shearer to be fit to face Portugal in England's Euro 2000 opener against Portugal.
Team captain Alan Shearer has had a precautionary scan on his injured knee but is confident it will not reveal any major problems. Keegan said: "I'm not worried about Alan. I think he will be fine. He's confident and we're confident. "The scans are the same thing with every player. Eight players have had scans this week. The technology is there and we use it. "Alan desperately wants to play and at the end of day it will be down to him.
Results The Newcastle striker, who has scored 28 goals in 60 international appearances, is waiting for the scan results. But Shearer, who suffered the injury in the scrappy win over Malta, is sure he will be fit for England's opener against Portugal in Eindhoven on Monday. Shearer said: "I had a scan just as a precaution to see if there's anything in there. "I think it needs another day or two to settle down. "We'll wait for the results and take it from there. I don't think it will be a problem."
