Tajik trial begins
The trial has started in the town of Hojand in northern Tajikistan of seven men accused of being members of the militant Islamic group, Hezb-i Tahrir. The defendants -- a mixture of ethnic Uzbeks and Tajiks -- are charged with spreading mass propaganda in an attempt to overthrow the civil government, organising a criminal group and inciting religious rivalry. After opening, the trial was postponed until Monday. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
