![]() Borg celebrates his fifth men's singles crown
With many Wimbledon memories from not only her days as a presenter but also as a player, Sue Barker talks to the BBC Sport Online team.
Here she talks about that famous tie-break between Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe in 1980.
When I was in my car listening to the Borg/McEnroe tie-break on the radio I had to pull over because the tension was immense. You weren't sure who was going to come out on top because the advantage swung back and forth. As it turned out, McEnroe won that fourth-set tie-break 18-16 but failed to wrest the men's singles crown from Borg. The ice-cool Swede kept his composure to win the deciding set 8-6 and notch up his fifth straight title at the All England Club. McEnroe had entered Centre Court to a chorus of boos after some unsavoury behaviour during his semi-final victory over Jimmy Connors. But he left having won the fans over with his sublime volleying and delightful passing shots. It was one of the most memorable finals ever seen, the tie-break only adding to the drama. My biggest regret was missing that moment.
