Cronje offered amnesty

The sacked South African cricket captain, Hansie Cronje, has been offered the possibility of immunity from prosecution over the allegations of match-fixing against him.

Prosecution lawyers at the inquiry into the allegations said the offer depended on Mr Cronje making a full and honest disclosure of his actions.

Two players who told the inquiry that Mr Cronje offered them fifteen thousand dollar bribes to swing a match against India earlier this year Herschelle Gibbs and Henry Williams have been made a similar offer.

Mr Cronje has denied the match-fixing allegations, but has admitted accepting money from an Indian bookmaker.
