New quake hits Indonesia

There's been a big aftershock in Indonesia in the Bengkulu region of Sumatra where more than a-hundred people were killed by an earthquake on Sunday.

The new quake measured six-point-two on the Richter scale -- compared to seven-point-three on Sunday.

People ran screaming out of their houses, but there are no reports of casualties or damage.

Rescue operations are continuing, amid growing criticism of the slowness of Indonesia's own response. The speaker of parliament, Amien Rais, who's touring the affected area, said he was ashamed that foreign governments and aid agencies had reacted much more promptly to the emergency than his own government. Another powerful earthquake has shaken a sparsely-populated area of northern Burma, near the borders with China and India.

And there's been what officials call a fairly strong quake in southern Japan, though damage has been minor.
