Israel troops wound Lebanon boy

There have been violent incidents along the Israel-Lebanon border two weeks after Israel's military withdrawal from southern Lebanon.

Reports say Israeli soldiers have wounded a Palestinian boy when they opened fire at a group of stone-throwing youths.

Witnesses said the five-year-old boy was among the youths, who had been hurling stones at Israeli troops over the former border crossing point known as Fatima Gate. The boy was taken to hospital where doctors operated on a shoulder wound. Elsewhere, United Nations teams verifying the border came under attack by protesters who stoned their vehicles. There were no casualties, but Israeli troops fired warning shots as several Palestinians who waved national flags as they tried to cut through the fence and walk across.

Earlier, the work of UN teams on the Lebanese side was postponed for a day after Lebanon objected to a border line drawn by UN cartographers. International peacekeepers are due to be deployed along the border once the UN certifies the Israeli withdrawal.
