Guyana, Surinam work on territorial dispute

The foreign ministers of Guyana and Surinam have met to discuss their long-running territorial differences, which flared up at the weekend over an oil rig in disputed waters.

Afterwards both men Clement Rohee of Guyana and Errol Snijders of Surinam agreed to work together to resolve what they described as a potentially explosive situation.

They said they would meet again later this month.

Tensions rose when the Surinamese navy forced the removal of a Canadian-owned oil rig from waters claimed by both countries.
