Solana: Treatment of Kosovo Serbs intolerable

The European Union's security and foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, has criticised the way Serbs are being treated in Kosovo.

Speaking at a meeting on stability in the Balkans in the Greek city of Thessaloniki, Mr Solana said their treatment was intolerable, and minorities were not being protected.

Correspondents say his comments follow an increase in violence against Serbs in Kosovo.

In Mitrovica, Serbs briefly blocked main roads on Wednesday, in protest against the killing of eight Serbs last week.

Organizers said the protests would continue until the international community took serious measures to protect the Serbs.
